School is full and additional online registration will not be available. There
is a waiting list for those parties still interested and they will be notified

This
years format will be the same basic high tempo skill and high repetition focused
approach. There will again be a few minor changes to this year's edition to ensure
the best learning experience possible. The focus on skating in the morning
and puck skills in the afternoon will continue with an emphasis on proper execution
and with significant repetition to reinforce muscle memory. Hockey is played at
a high pace and habit rules over thinking 90% of the time. The school will
run from Aug 18-22, 2008 at Brentwood Arena, Northmount Dr & 35st NW. We hope
Minor Hockey Week went great and wish everyone a super finish to your season.
We will see you this summer! Any questions may
be directed to hockey.info@shaw.ca
August 18-22, 2008 Brad Werenka
Hockey School CAMP AGENDA
This will be the 5th Annual Brad Werenka
Hockey School and will be held at Brentwood Arena, Northmount Dr & 35st NW.
The school is open to ages 6 - 14 of all skill levels (age exceptions within reason
may be made). Participants are grouped according to skill level and age. Start
time is between 8-10am and spans an 8 hour day till 4-6pm.
THE PROGRAM The
on-ice program features approximately 2.5 hours of instruction per day and focuses
on skill analysis and development. The off-ice program consists of specialty skill
development, physical conditioning, cross training and a 30 minute classroom format
covering several topics including hockey talk, nutrition, leadership, persistence
and team building.
POWER / SPEED SKATING It is difficult to overstate
the importance of strong skating skills to a great hockey player especially in
the "New NHL". This increased focus on skating has influenced all minor
hockey players as Hockey Canada has adopted and emphasized the new rules. Based
on this new emphasis on skating we will again dedicate the 1st ice session of
each day to skating. We will apply the same progression (with a few tweaks) to
specifically address each skating component. Running through a circuit of skating
skills each day over a week is the best opportunity to establish positive habits
and muscle memory in a young developing skater. We are excited to apply the new
format and see the results at the end of the week.
CHECK IN Each
participant will get his/her jersey and details for the week on Sunday August
17, upstairs in the Brentwood Arena, Northmount Dr & 35st NW. CHARITY
GAME Although we took a hiatus from the Staff/Celebrity Charity Game
we hope to bring it back stronger and better than ever. At the end of the camp
our staff and a few special guests get to strut their stuff all in the name of
fun and for a worthy cause selected each year. All participants and families are
welcome to cheer on some familiar faces and support the chosen charity. FRIDAY Friday
August 22, 2008 will be an opportunity for the kids to show off their new improved
skills in a show case game. We will again have a 3 on 3 cross ice round robin
format with bragging rights and prizes.
AWARDS We will again have daily
and weekly prizes for those participants who display an excellent work ethic and
superb sportsmanship. The effort, camaraderie, and overall attitude were exceptional
last year and we expect no less this year.
HOCKEY PLAYERS OATH At
registration we ask all participants to read and sign this oath. "As
a competitor and student of the game of hockey, I will participate in the Brad
Werenka Hockey School with the highest forms and standards of sportsmanship, respect
and discipline no matter if I win or lose or whether I am more or less accomplished
than other participants. I will strive to improve my skill set as much as humanly
possible and have as much fun as humanly possible. "
